We Are All Connected: Ted & Mimi Kaplysh
junio 27, 2022
Ted and Mimi Kaplysh are members of our newly founded Visionary Society, a special group of individuals who have donated to Judi’s House/JAG Institute for 10 or more consecutive years. Consecutive gifts, either annually or monthly through The Journey program, are crucial to our success and provide dependable support as we continue to work towards our vision that no child should be alone in grief. Ted shares more about his loss experience, why he and Mimi give, and their family’s strong connection to the organization. Thank you, Ted and Mimi, for your continued generosity!
What was it that first spurred your involvement with Judi’s House?
We first became aware of Judi’s House when my stepson, John Wickliff, began to volunteer for the organization. John’s father died when he was very young and volunteering was a healing experience for him. We are very grateful for his opportunity to work with Judi’s House in several capacities. (John served as a Judi’s House board member from 2008– 2020 and was our 2018 Healing Hand Award Honoree.)
What is your first memory of Judi’s House?
We remember touring Judi’s House, learning about the unique programming, and meeting Brian and Brook Griese in the beautiful facility and garden. We both know how needed grief support is and are continuously impressed with how professional, yet personal, the program is.
What do you feel is the most important component of the work we do at Judi’s House?
Both John and I lost our fathers early in life and we understand why helping children cope with grief is so important. When my father died unexpectedly, I was 10 years old and remember feeling like I was different from other children, that the death of my father showed on my face. I did not know how to cry for my father and had no help with my grief. Children who have experienced a death need to know they are not alone, are not different, and can express their feelings in a safe environment.
Why do you choose to invest in Judi’s House?
Mimi and I give because we think the services Judi’s House provides must continue to be available for children who have experienced death and loss at such early ages.
