Colorado Parent: Talking to Kids About Tragic Events

mayo 22, 2022

In an article for Colorado Parent, Dr. Micki Burns gives advice on approaching your child’s – and your own – fear, anxiety and grief.

Talking to children about tragic events, like the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, is challenging and it can be difficult to know how to best support children when we may be processing the event with our own complex emotions and fears.

Dr. Micki Burns, Judi’s House chief clinical officer, provides insight and advice into how caregivers can navigate these complex discussions and feelings in this article from Colorado Parent.

“Parents and caregivers often question their influence in times of uncertainty. Remember that you are who they (your children) look to for safety. Provide hope that things will get better with time, while encouraging them to share if things stay the same or get worse.”

– Dr. Micki Burns, Judi’s House Chief Clinical Officer
