Judi’s House Announces Public Phase of Capital Campaign

Building a home today. Changing lives forever.
DENVER — Oct. 19, 2021 — Judi’s House and its education and research arm, JAG Institute, is pleased to announce the public phase of its capital campaign to build a new home where lives are transformed through community and compassion. This project will transition current Judi’s House and JAG Institute operations to a new 26,470 square foot location at the crossroads of Denver and Aurora, Colo., just a few blocks east of Stanley Marketplace. To date, the project has raised more than 81% of its $20 million goal.
Since 2002, Judi’s House has served more than 12,000 children and caregivers by providing research-based grief care, at no cost to families. Released annually by JAG Institute in partnership with New York Life Foundation, the Childhood Bereavement Estimation Model® approximates 1 in 14, or 5.3 million, children in the U.S. will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18. These staggering numbers underscore the need for the vital services Judi’s House provides.
“A new home for Judi’s House will allow us to improve access to services and ensure the sustainable impact of the organization for years to come,” said Jessica Maitland Mayo, Chief Executive Officer of Judi’s House/JAG Institute. “The limitations of our current homes coupled with growing demand for programming prompted us to pursue a new location that can comfortably serve all our constituents and bring our team together under one roof.”
In addition to purpose-built environments for Judi’s House direct therapeutic services for bereaved children and families, this new facility will provide the space necessary for effective and efficient training including workforce development, community education, evaluation capacity building and more. Combined, these efforts aid Judi’s House in creating more grief aware communities throughout Colorado and beyond.
“By investing in preventative care, research, education and awareness, we are working to create social change that ensures a compassionate response to all grieving children and promotes healthy growth,” said Brook Griese, PhD, Judi’s House co-founder and licensed psychologist specialized in childhood grief and trauma.
“With support from our community, our new home will become a beacon of hope and a center for inspiration in times of adversity for children and families,” added Brian Griese, Judi’s House co-founder and board chairman.
Designed by Davis Partnership Architects and is managed by PCL Construction, the project began in July with an anticipated opening in Fall 2022.
