Meet the co-chairs of our Emerging Leaders Network (ELN) – Kelly Culshaw and Andrew Crumpler! The ELN is a fantastic group of young Denver professionals who are committed to our mission, vision, and values. This group of leaders, spearheaded by Kelly and Andrew, spend time building community relationships, volunteering, and fundraising for Judi’s House.
Kelly Culshaw, ELN Co-Chair
Kelly first became involved in Judi’s House shortly after college. Growing up in Denver, she had known individuals who were helped by Judi’s House and felt it was a wonderful opportunity to give back.
What was it that first spurred your involvement with Judi’s House?
After experiencing some losses in my life, being able to give back to the community and be able to hold space for others seemed like the perfect opportunity.
It felt like the right path forward and the best way to honor the loved ones in my life that had been lost by trying to help other people learn to continue living their lives.
What do you feel is the most important component of the work we do at Judi’s House?
Everything Judi’s House does for individuals and the community is so important. In today’s world with the amount of loss and childhood bereavement, just providing families somewhere safe with a community is something the world just needs more of.
Why do you choose to be involved in the Emerging Leaders Network?
After the pandemic hit, I missed having the opportunity to spend time at Judi’s House being a companion volunteer. The Emerging Leaders Network provided a great opportunity to continue my involvement and be able to connect with other like-minded individuals in my age group.
Andrew Crumpler, ELN Co-Chair
Andrew is originally from northern Virginia, but has lived in Colorado for three and a half years. He loves to hike with his wife and play ultimate frisbee with friends. He is currently working toward his clinical social worker license.
What was it that first spurred your involvement with Judi’s House?
My first introduction to Judi’s House was in 2010 when I attended an Outward Bound trip for grieving young adults after my father died in 2009.
When I went to get my MSW, I was lucky enough to receive an internship through Judi’s House.
What do you feel is the most important component of the work we do at Judi’s House?
The most important component of the work we do at Judi’s House is to provide services to kids and their families at no cost. The Emerging Leaders Network has helped support this component by working with volunteers and creating fundraisers.
Why do you choose to be involved in the Emerging Leaders Network?
Although my internship was cut short due to COVID, I was able to stay involved with Judi’s House through the Emerging Leaders Network. Through this role, I have been able to continue to support a wonderful organization that helps so many. The ELN has been an amazing way to connect with others who share in the Judi’s House values and shine a light on how “we are all connected”.
