Oklahoma News 4 interviews Dr. Micki Burns on how to help children process grief
August 11, 2023
In an interview with Oklahoma News 4 (KFOR), Judi’s House Chief Clinical Officer, Dr. Micki Burns, discussed how we can best support children processing their grief.
In Oklahoma, 1 in 11 children are experiencing the death of a parent or sibling by age 18– that is more that 8% higher than the national average. With these state statistics in mind, KFOR interviews our own Chief Clinical Officer Micki Burns to discuss how to help children process grief.
Micki explains the importance of adults, caregivers, and the community to work to give kids the space to grieve in a way that is healthy and healing. “Grief is a lifelong process,” says Dr. Burns. “And as children grow, their grief will grow alongside them.” Dr. Burns says that one of the best things we can do to support a grieving child in our life is to be present and listen.
