Volunteers are integral to the sustainability and growth of our mission. For the thousands of children that experience the death of a parent or sibling annually, we count on the generosity of our volunteer community to help serve those who need us most.

Volunteer Roles:
Companion Volunteers (Limited Availability)
Under the leadership of Judi’s House Grief Counselors, Companion Volunteers work directly with our clients providing support to staff counselors or master’s level trainees as they facilitate a children’s grief support groups.
Due to the nature of this work, this is an application and interview-based position that requires a one-year commitment. Our grief support groups are held quarterly Monday through Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Companion Volunteer Requirements:
– Submit Companion Volunteer application (opens each Fall)
– Attend in-person interview with Judi’s House staff
– Complete and cover cost of background check (if selected)
– Attend a two-day, 12-hour volunteer training
– Complete three group observations
– Actively participate in a group one night per week, during all four quarters of the year.
Please note, you may choose to serve on a different night of the week during each quarter.
Corporate & Team Volunteers (Limited Opportunities Available)
Corporate and organizational volunteer opportunities can improve performance, strengthen employee retention, and encourage teamwork, while boosting morale. We will help your company create a specialized volunteer opportunity that supports our mission and meets the needs of your organization.
We are especially grateful for large teams (15-20 people) to assist in cleaning and organizing our facility between program quarters and help us maintain our garden and yard (seasonally).
House & Mission Volunteers
Judi’s House has a need for volunteers to help us maintain our facilities, grounds, and community presence. Projects and time commitments vary.
- Facility/grounds maintenance
- Administrative tasks
- Spanish translation
- Event support
- Program outreach
- Fundraising
Kitchen Volunteers
Kitchen Volunteers:
- Assist with set up, serving food, and cleaning up on nights when meals are donated at Judi’s House
- Are on site and/or available from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m.
- Set up begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by dinner service at 5:25 p.m. Clean-up is finished by 6:45 p.m.
- Greet families and serve them their meal
- Clean up after the meal, including boxing up leftovers for families to take home
- Be at least 13 years old (with an adult), youth ages 16 and up may volunteer independently
Nourishment Providers
We are thankful for Nourishment Providers who support Judi’s House families with a pre-group meal. This program allows families to focus on their grief journey without the worry of preparing a meal for the evening.
Nourishment Providers:
- Commit to providing a catered meal or cooking/preparing a meal in the Judi’s House kitchen
- Catered meals may be delivered directly to Judi’s House; staff will accept the delivery on your behalf
- Meals cooked/prepared onsite must be supervised by our Food Safety Manager
- Due to the nature of our groups, a head count will be communicated two weeks prior to your selected date
- Are on-site and/or available from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m.
- Set up begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by dinner service at 5:25 p.m. Clean-up is finished by 6:45 p.m.
- Assist with greeting families and serving them their meal (Kitchen Volunteers may also help when just the meal is being donated)
- Clean up after the meal, including boxing up leftovers for families to take home
- Be at least 13 years old
- Maximum of 6 volunteers in your group
Judi’s House will provide dishes, flatware, serving utensils, napkins, cups, and to-go containers.
Program Supply Volunteer
This role is instrumental in preparing materials and supplies for group counseling sessions. We welcome individuals ages 14 and up from 9:30 a.m. to noon on select days of the year.
Quilting Volunteers
Judi’s House memory quilts allow participants to commemorate their special person. Decorated quilt squares are assembled by volunteer quilters and the resulting quilts are displayed on the walls throughout Judi’s House as a beautiful and touching memorial to those who have died.
Quilting volunteers, individuals or groups, donate their time and materials for each project.
