Judi’s House/JAG Institute Announces Micki Burns, PhD as CEO

Judi’s House/ JAG Institute poised to continue innovating and adapting to meet the evolving needs of our community with appointment of Micki Burns.
Following 12 years leading Judi’s House/ JAG Institute clinical programs and core initiatives, Micki Burns, PhD assumes the role of Chief Executive Officer May 1. Burns succeeds Jessica Maitland Mayo, who served as CEO for five years.
Having most recently served as the organizations Chief Clinical Officer, Burns directly contributed to the organization’s research and program development. Among her achievements, she created a dedicated team to deliver grief care in schools, developed a robust post-graduate training program, advanced our Childhood Bereavement Estimation Model and nationwide Changemakers Initiatives, and more.
Further, Micki’s influence extends beyond the organization, she is a thought leader in the field of childhood bereavement and currently serves on the board for the National Alliance for Children’s Grief. With her extensive background, she brings a wealth of expertise and a passion for our mission to support grieving children and families and is poised to lead Judi’s House into a new era of impact.
Brook Griese, Judi’s House co-founder and board chair, noted at our annual luncheon “Micki has taken our core initiatives to the next level … All of this and her own lived experience of loss make Dr. Burns uniquely qualified to lead Judi’s House into its next exciting period.”

She envisions expanding clinical programs, forging innovative partnerships, and advancing training efforts to ensure quality care for all bereaved youth, regardless of circumstance. Anchored in our origins of hope and resilience, Micki’s leadership promises to uphold the legacy of Judi’s House, fostering healing and support for generations to come.
