How to Support Grieving Children and Families
1 in 13 children in the U.S. will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18
Judi’s House is a community-based nonprofit bereavement center for children and families with the vision that no child should be alone in grief. We provide free services to grieving children and families to help them heal.
How you can help
Our story
When former NFL quarterback Brian Griese was just 12 years old, his mother Judi died of breast cancer. Along Brian’s path to healing, he realized he wanted to give back to children and young adults who were also grieving the loss of an important person in their lives.
In 2002, Brian and his wife, Dr. Brook Griese, a clinical psychologist specializing in childhood trauma and loss, founded Judi’s House in Denver.
This year, we are honoring 20 years of walking side-by-side with grieving children and families.
Free services for grieving children and families
Judi’s House provides a wide variety of services for grieving children and families including:
- Individual and family counseling
- Group counseling
- School-based grief care workshops for kids, teachers and other community members
In 2022, we opened a new facility located on the border of Denver and Aurora that will allow us to better serve grieving children and families.
Transforming grief care in Colorado and beyond
The research arm of Judi’s House, the JAG Institute, is a leading research institution committed to ensuring childhood bereavement is recognized as a critical public policy priority.
Each year, the JAG Institute produces the Childhood Bereavement Estimation Model (CBEM) which approximates rates of U.S. children and youth who will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the time they reach adulthood.
The JAG Institute’s training and education initiative brings our family bereavement expertise to thousands of individuals each year, enriching their community’s capacity for grief-sensitive responses.
